What is IoT?

The Internet of Things (IoT) is a system that interconnects computer machines, devices, humans, or anything else connected by a network without requiring interaction between humans or humans to computers.

How does IoT work?

IoT works by connecting and integrating four essential elements: sensors, connectivity, data processing, and display. IoT communicates through connectivity that enters the cloud; then, the data is processed to determine actions, such as issuing alerts or notifications.

Elements of IoT:

1. Sensor/Device

The sensor or device in IoT functions to collect data, including temperature, sound, and more. This is the first stage in IoT.

2. Connectivity

After data is collected with a sensor, the computer sends the data to the cloud using connectivity, such as Wi-Fi, internet connection, Bluetooth, or wired networks.

It's essential to choose connectivity with sufficient bandwidth as it can affect various aspects.

3. Data Processing

After data reaches the cloud, the third process is data processing, which can range from simple tasks like checking the temperature to complex tasks like facial recognition.

4. UI

Processed data is then displayed to the user with a provided interface. The output of this display is the result of the performed processes.

In the user interface, users can not only view the results but in some cases also manipulate/modify data, such as changing the temperature, increasing volume, and more.

IoT is commonly used in industry, employing smart sensors and AI to make manufacturing and industrial processes more efficient. This is known as industrial Internet or Industry 4.0.

IoT is also found in the agriculture industry, significantly aiding processes that require substantial raw materials and costs. This technology makes farming more economical and efficient, reducing the potential for crop failure.

3. Household

IoT appliances are widespread in homes, from cooking processes and cleaning to security. This technology is commonly known as smart home.
